SUMMARY

Part of the IDEX Corporation, Precision Polymer Engineering is a manufacturer and supplier of high performance, niche elastomer seals used in critical applications around the globe. PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Materials Application Engineer’s main role is to provide technical expertise to customers and to the organization by initiating and/or supporting the development of new materials, applications and technologies responding to customer or market needs. They will support the promotion of the company’s materials and applications in order to develop PPE business in the semiconductor industry.

The role requires the ability to manage multiple relationships with different functions, work closely with Applications Engineers, external account managers / sales team, core R&D team, Quality, and Production to name a few.

The strong preference is for this role to be located in California, which is closest to our semiconductor customers.

REPORTS TO:

Director of Product Management, Marketing, and Strategy

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop comprehensive plans for growth in the target space and the customer’s “problems to be solved” to be addressed by solutions in our product and innovation roadmap. This includes gathering voice of customer (VoC) and working cross-functionally to generate business cases that aid in the justification and prioritization of new products or enhancements. These innovations can be delivered through internal development or potentially M&A.

  • Visits / meetings with selected (potential) customers, together with account managers or alone, in order to present and propose PPE materials / application / technology

  • Support account managers in the pre-sale phase (define technical offer, material recommendations, RFQ, qualification support, etc.)

  • Support account managers in the post-sale phase (e.g. failure analysis, post-application analysis, customer warranty analysis, etc.)

  • Problem resolution and support to customers

  • Coordinate testing and analytical support for customers and manage communication to and from the customers

  • Support the development of application specific test methods either in house or with external third parties.

  • Claim resolution support

  • Create and update technical marketing and communication documentation (e.g. data sheets, technical brochures, white papers, customer references / case studies)

  • Anticipate reactions from competitors and integrate contingencies into market strategy

  • Perform competitive benchmarking and market share/trend analysis pricing and promotion

  • Develop market insight through voice of customer research, in-depth competitive analysis, and market segmentation

  • Identify and develop relationships with possible external decision makers and partners for the application: co-suppliers, OEM’s, administrations, universities, technical institutes, industry associations, etc.

  • Deliver training (e.g. customers, distributors, partners, sales staff)

  • Provide materials, process and application expertise and advice to the organization and the external world.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year university in a related area/discipline

  • 3+ years in the semiconductor space, preferably with experience developing or commercializing new products

  • Strong understanding of polymer (preferably elastomers) science and applications (materials and processing as well as customers products and applications)

  • Basic understanding of the main marketing tools

  • Developed project management skills

  • Basic knowledge of 8D and/or root cause problem solving analysis

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $107,100.00 - $160,700.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
