IDEX Manufacturing Supervisor in Punta Gorda, Florida

PURPOSE

The Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for the tactical management of all controller production lines to ensure that the factory meets its objectives for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth on a daily basis. This facility is a book and turn, low volume high mix, single piece flow, assembly manufacturing operation which requires the incumbent to adapt to changes and solve problems on the manufacturing floor and warehouse in real-time to meet its daily commitments to shareholders, customers, and employees. The Manufacturing Supervisor is also expected to participate in or lead cross-functional efforts to strategically improve production and inventory management to result in improved safe behaviors, orderly workplace, scrap reduction, increased inventory accuracy, labor productivity, flexible capacity planning, defect, and burden expense reduction.

DIRECT REPORTS

Assembler, Material Handlers, Shipping report jointly to the Manufacturing Supervisor and Manufacturing Manager.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The principal responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to the following:

Build Great Teams

  • Assess and build the leadership, team building, and operational skills of all team members.

  • Working with team members, ensure that all value streams are staffed and trained to the target profiles.

  • Ensure consistent enforcement of company policy and deploy performance management methods as appropriate.

  • Listen to and respond appropriately to employee concerns in a timely fashion.

  • Role model behaviors consistent with the espoused culture: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, and Balance.

Execute with Excellence

  • Immediately identify, contain, and resolve safety issues. Ensure safe behaviors and an orderly workplace.

  • Ensure the product is shipped meets customer quality requirements and product performance specifications.

  • Supervises the flow of work and ensures the pace meets expectations of output and on-time delivery.

  • Manage overtime and production spending in a way to meet or beat budgetary commitments. Fill a leadership role for semiannual physical inventory activities.

  • Produce, interpret, and report all production metrics openly, and consistently.

  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement to performance against metrics.

  • Communicate and/or escalate effectively across functional boundaries as necessary to secure support and overcome obstacles affecting daily performance requirements.

  • Ensure support programs (such as tool/workbench maintenance) are in place as needed to support operations.

  • Take ownership of the site's safety initiatives, identifying risks, implementing solutions, and fostering a safe work environment

Accelerate Profitable Growth

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings or projects as necessary to ensure that production capacity and capability is in place for new product launches and/or product changes.

  • Participate in cross-functional efforts as assigned designed to reduce operating expenses and reinvest profits for growth initiatives.

Required Education, Skills, or Experience

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in an assembly manufacturing operation

  • Understanding of legal requirements of a management position

  • Prior supervisory experience of an hourly workforce

  • Extensive manufacturing and leadership experience

  • Must be able to operate all equipment on the lines

  • Must understand how to maintain tools on the lines

  • Must be familiar with basic Lean concepts such as 6S, Value Streams, Waste Elimination, and Single Piece Flow

  • Must be familiar with developing and maintaining workplace safety protocols and ensuring compliance with safety regulations

  • Must be able to identify, calculate, interpret, and report operating metrics

  • Must be able to train new team members and employees in their job

  • Must be able to discuss operational excellence methods with line employees (ie describe the purpose of a value stream, etc)

  • Must be able to operate a computer in a Windows Microsoft Office environment

  • Must be local to the area or relocate to the area at your own expense on hire

Desired Education, Skills or Experience

  • Lean Manufacturing Certification

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

  • OSHA Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business or technical field desired but not required

Typical Work Conditions

  • Standing 8 hours at a time

  • Frequent weekend work (typically Saturdays only)

  • Air and Non-air-conditioned work environment

  • Required to lift up to 40 pounds

  • Use of air and electric-powered tools

  • Initial period of employment will include extensive hands on training to learn the products, parts, people and processes
