POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Buyer’s mission is to develop, prioritize and execute long-term sourcing initiatives that reduce supply chain complexity and achieve year over year material productivity. The Senior Buyer will use a variety of tools to quote for, procure, and ensure timely delivery of items necessary to support the organization’s build demands.
The Buyer will be responsible for procurement and planning activities associated with CVI build demands. This person will leverage the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, relationships with internal customers and close working relationships with the manufacturing team to deliver a competitive performance to our external customers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build a supplier base with the technical and business capabilities to support the company’s dynamic and growing requirements
Effectively communicate with vendors regarding delivery schedules, quality issues, and cost concerns
Monitor existing orders to ensure on time delivery
Expedite supplier orders as required
Ensure material availability for all demand
Analyze costs and negotiate prices for goods and services
Analyze data to recommend and implement changes
Leverage analyzed data in our ERP system and relationship with internal customers and our manufacturing team, to take actions to improve Inventory Turns and on hand inventory value
Develop and maintain an international supplier base that will meet the company’s needs in terms of quality, price, delivery, and lead time
Work with Quality Assurance and Engineering to ensure communication of specification and documentation requirements to suppliers
Work Supply Chain Manager and members of the procurement team to best balance the workload
Guide and train Level 1 buyers in situations requested by management
Monitor status of open purchase orders and ensures timely resolution and communication of potential problems
Assist in special projects
Perform other duties as assigned by manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Intermediate Excel Skills (e.g., experience with v-lookup & pivot tables preferred)
Excellent organization skills, able to work under pressure and to tight timescales
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work closely and collaboratively with team members, and suppliers
Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers
Strong negotiation skills required to achieve best value and most favorable procurement position for the business
Good attention to detail to ensure all purchase orders are accurate
Ability to scale volume and complexity as departmental knowledge increases
Ability to work collaboratively with a other departments to ensure the timely purchase of goods and services as needed
Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to learn quickly
Ability to work independently and make strategic decisions on behalf of the company
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required and five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Minimum of five (5) years planning and/or purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five (5) years using computerized material planning and purchasing system
Professional certification from Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) or American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) is a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS
Ability to:
Perform sedentary work at a workstation
Operate computerized equipment and transcribe
Perform basic clerical lifting of small quantities of paper
Demonstrate upper body mobility to operate computer system
Bend as is necessary for sitting, typing (and/or using a computer mouse)
Type, operate computer mouse, and grasp
