The Applications Engineer, Pumps & Compressors is a sales support role that collaborates on technical matters with internal staff, distributors, and end-user customers, assists in training, troubleshoots application issues, and reviews / designs custom systems for large opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Communicate extensively with distributors and customers (phone & emails) to determine operating conditions, equipment needs, scope of supply, budget, time frame, etc.

• Provide quotes for existing and custom gas compressors and pumps

• Review bid specifications, selecting systems which most closely match requirements

• Review and provide timely responses to distributor inquiries

• Assist distributors in proposal preparation

• Utilize compressor sizing program and pump curves to select / size optimal products in response to customer inquiries

• Design and develop systems to meet customer requirements, including special packages, specifically involving developing bills of material, setting up new part numbers, and collaborating with engineering to create product drawings

• Troubleshoot field-installed compressor and pump equipment

• Provide technical support to AFS customer service team for distributor orders and inquiries

• Provide technical training for customers, distributors, and staff both in-house and at off-site locations as required

• Collect and share customer observations about product performance and functionality with product management

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required

• 3+ years of experience with pumps, compressors, or other fluid handling equipment

• 2+ years of channel sales or related experience in compression industry

• Effective communication, both written and verbal

• Strong coaching and training ability

Additional Qualifications:

• Excellent organization, communication, and follow-through skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

• Must be able to prioritize and multitask

• Must be self-directed and can act quickly in ambiguous situations

• Strong mechanical aptitude

• Problem solver with customer-focused mindset

Exposure to manufacturing environment. Noise level may vary from moderate office environment to noisy/loud in the plant area. Proper use of safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes, goggles, safety glasses, gloves, apron and face shield must be observed.
