SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Senior Buyer / Planner will have complete responsibility for procuring materials, components, supplies, and services. This position will work in accordance with established policies, controls, and accepted practices while at the same time making recommendations for improvement processes to the procurement of materials, components, services, and suppliers essential to the operation of the Company. The person in this position will be driver of cost effective and timely procurement solutions through forecast breakdown and by identifying issues and making recommendations on how to resolve them and making these solutions happen.
The person in this position will also be an integral support line of Operations as the bridge between the factory and the materials function engaging with the direct labor team and driving any required solutions with a sense of urgency on a daily basis.
The Senior Buyer / Planner works with the Materials Manager to develop strategy and consolidate and manage supplier base as appropriate.
Lead sales forecasting breakdown into component demand planning to provide visibility of spike and/or project based materials requirements in the “plan for every part” report.
Develop and execute materials inflow planning by evaluating demand requirements on a daily basis to support production demand while driving high inventory turnover.
Tracks market conditions of commodities purchased and communicates inflationary impacts to management.
Evaluate and order all materials needed for production, maintenance, and office personnel.
Control data integrity of business system around inventory locations and quantities on hand.
Revise Kanban/replenishment quantities as demand shifts.
Leads the phase in and phase out planning of materials through new product development, product modification, and obsolescence.
Evaluates quotations for quality, delivery, and cost considerations.
Negotiate price, terms, and conditions with suppliers to ensure proper cost management.
Work in close cooperation with Manufacturing Engineering and other departments in identifying cost reduction and continuous improvement opportunities.
Review supplier performance and address deficiencies in regards to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Use kanban and the JDE business system to maintain proper inventory levels.
Act as gatekeeper for all inventory transactions of components required by engineering, service, or other functional areas of business.
Collaborate directly with factory personnel, Manufacturing Engineering team, and quality to support an accelerated drive towards resolution of any production issues from a materials support standpoint.
Coordinate, prepare, review, and retain all import documentation to ensure compliance with the U.S. government rules and regulations. Oversee all documentation related to import logistics and compliance.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, finance or related field preferred or industrial technology.
Minimum of 5 Years minimum experience in purchasing, material or distribution area required. The successful candidate must have a proven track record, demonstrated by a progressive level of growth in responsibility.
Ability to aggressively negotiate and manage optimum pricing and volume for assigned commodities.
Knowledge of the written procedures, documents, and forms used to measure, analyze, report, and score supplier performance to stated requirements.
Microsoft Office Suite with excellent Excel and Access skills with demonstrated ability to analyze sources of data with minimal guidance.
Background with ERP system data management. JDE experience preferred.
Excellent analytical skills, detail-oriented, ability to multitask, and meet deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The position may provide day-to-day guidance and training to other t team members in the department.
This person will have an understanding of Lean principles, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and JIT processes in an industrial environment.
The successful candidate should be driven by the principles of continuous improvement.
