JOB TITLE: Manufacturing Engineering Manager (SBL, LBL)

REPORTING TO: Director of Quality, Regulatory Compliance, and EH&S

LOCATION: West Henrietta, NY


These positions may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident.

Who is IDEX Health & Science (IH&S)?

IDEX Health & Science, Life Science Optics – based in Rochester, New York –IDEX Health & Science’s line of products is comprised of a Light Sources Group and an Optical Systems Group. The Light Sources Group manufactures a variety of visible, low to moderate power lasers and laser-based systems uniquely designed for consistent performance. The Light Sources Group offers three basic types of lasers: gas (helium-neon and ion lasers), diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers, and semiconductor diode laser assemblies. The Optical Systems Group provides the design, prototype and low to mid volume manufacturing of custom lens assemblies and optical systems. The Optical Systems Group also specializes in the design of reliable shutter mechanisms and assemblies.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead and direct the activities of the System’s and Laser’s Manufacturing Engineering Team. This team supports the manufacturing processes of complex optical systems, subsystems, and lasers. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for ongoing safety, quality, yield, and process improvements including new product and process introductions.


  • Provide insightful and decisive leadership of the Manufacturing Engineering team.

  • Ensure that all production processes are robust and are fully documented.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert of Optical Systems’ production capabilities.

  • Monitor business line KPI’s to align team projects and daily support.

  • Lead new product and new process introductions for Manufacturing.

  • Responsible for engineering projects being driven to successful completion and on schedule.

  • Coach engineers to make data driven decisions utilizing lean principles and methodologies.

  • Drive process related investigations and corrective actions.

  • Participate in customer audits of our manufacturing processes.

  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering representation to internal and external customers.


  • This position requires a Bachelor degree (Master degree preferred) in Engineering, Math, or Science.

  • 10+ years of experience in a technical manufacturing environment.

  • 5+ years of experience in managing teams with a servant leader mindset.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interface internally with all levels of the organization and externally with customers, suppliers, and auditors.

  • Background in optical components, glass fabrication, or semiconductor (i.e., optical glass machining, processing, cleaning, inspection, and handling) preferred.

  • Experience using root cause analysis tools and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams formally or informally to achieve results in a cooperative, cross-functional, participative, matrix environment.

  • Passion to succeed in all aspects of the position and be of the highest integrity.

  • Customer focused and committed to the paradigm of continuous improvement.


  • Quality tools and/or lean, six sigma knowledge and expertise is highly desired.

  • Experience identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Must be able to travel to customer, supplier, and other IDEX sites as needed.

  • This position is full time, on-site role (1180 John St., West Henrietta, NY).
