JOB TITLE: Machine Shop Lead

REPORTING TO: Manufacturing Manager

LOCATION: West Henrietta, NY


These positions may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident.

This position is responsible for set-up, machining production parts, prototypes, and tooling. Ability to machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers. This position also has lead responsibilities on behalf of the Machine Shop Department.

  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations

  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines

  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process

  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances

  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work

  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts

  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs

  • Program computers and electronic instruments such as numerically controlled machine tools

  • Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine controls

  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information, including input to estimation of new jobs is required

  • Establish work procedures for fabricating products, using a variety of metalworking machines

  • Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs

  • This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations

  • Monitor and edit Kronos timekeeping

  • Daily review of production schedule to ensure on time delivery

  • Monitor ECO distribution and change process as needed

  • Provide input to Manufacturing Manager for performance appraisals regarding machine shop employees


  • Ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Previous supervisory positions a plus

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

  • Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

  • Work with mathematical concepts, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry

  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form

  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations


  • Write routine reports and correspondence
