Summary

IDEX Health & Science Technology (Micropump) in Vancouver, Washington is looking for a talented and experienced Sr. Buyer/Planner (SB/P). This senior level position will work in accordance with established policies, controls, accepted practices, recommends and initiates improved processes, procures and coordinates the procurement of materials, components, supplies, and services essential to the operation of the Company at the most economical costs and of timely delivery.

Essential Responsibilities

  • The SB/P works with the Supply Chain Manager to develop strategy and consolidate and manage supplier base as appropriate.

  • Leads commodity strategy development for IDEX Vancouver, working with the Director of Strategic Sourcing for assigned commodities.

  • Evaluates quotations for quality, delivery, and cost considerations.

  • Selects suppliers for precision machined parts and services to drive value engineering and DMI projects.

  • Negotiates price, terms, and conditions with suppliers to ensure proper cost management.

  • Tracks market conditions of commodities purchased and communicates inflationary impacts to management.

  • Works in close cooperation with Manufacturing Engineering and other departments in identifying cost reduction and capacity improvement opportunities.

  • Compares supplier performance and addresses deficiencies.

  • Understands demand requirements, reacts decisively to resolve supply chain constraints, and implements action plans with operational leadership.

  • Maintains an inventory of parts, within assigned components, to meet stated goals of inventory while maintaining production schedules.

  • Works closely with the Supply Chain Analyst to control inventory levels by monitoring turns by line item, supplier, and commodity.

  • Determines targets and action plans to achieve proper inventory levels to support 100% OTD to customers and fill rate (90%+).

  • Uses MRP/MPS to maintain proper inventory levels.

  • Implements and monitors Kanban and consignment inventory programs as needed.

  • Tracks and controls inbound freight costs ensuring market price is being applied.

  • Reviews/signs off ECN’s, ensuring proper inventory levels are maintained not impacting EOZ or production.

  • Under guidance from the Manager, aggressively manages the extended value stream with assigned suppliers and identifies ways to reduce lead time.

  • As process owner, drives improvements on at least two dashboards annually.

  • Utilizes Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools as appropriate to reduce procurement process variation, eliminate non-value added activities and defects within the supply chain process, and improve customer satisfaction.

  • Administers vendor onsite audits and certification programs in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience in industrial manufacturing environment and a minimum of five years experience in current purchasing/production methods.

  • Ability to aggressively negotiate and manage optimum pricing and volume for assigned commodities.

  • Knowledge of the written procedures, documents, and forms used to measure, analyze, report, and score supplier performance to stated requirements.

  • Green Belt/process ownership experience, Black Belt preferred.

  • Excellent Excel and Access skills with demonstrated ability to analyze sources of data with minimal guidance.

  • MRP knowledge is required; SAP experience preferred.

  • APICS CPIM and NSMA CPM preferred.

  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally to vendor/supplier locations as required.

Additional Information about the Position

  • The SB/P may supervise and provide day-to-day guidance and training to other buyers and planners in the department.

  • Will perform special projects and duties as required or needed.

  • Actively participates in Company’s commitment to ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14000.

  • This position requires superior communication skills in all areas.
