Under minimal supervision establishes and recommends and implements improvements to production processes, quality and component producibility; contributes to product and component design focused on Design for Manufacturing. Reduces cost and lead times by implanting process improvements including programming, tool and machine selection, work holding design, and end of line test and inspection fixture design.
Analyzes and improves manufacturing techniques and processes by investigating existing procedures, tooling, costs, and alternate methods; implements necessary changes by cooperating with Manufacturing staff to improve component cost and quality
Communicates with vendors, and in-house personnel to receive quotations, answer questions, and resolve problems
Conducts controlled experiments with process changes and product design changes to determine overall impact on affected products and applications
Coordinates/directs the fabrication, construction, and implementation of tooling and production aids
Create, design, modify, and improve support for process tools (such as injection molds, deep draw dies, de-gating dies, etc.)
Creates, documents and trains on procedures involving assembly and manufacturing processes
Designs and implements tooling for machined metal and plastic components
Dispositions parts and assemblies rejected by production
Improves complex manufacturing processes that produce intricate components with high precision in low, medium and high volumes
Initiates and accurately drafts Engineering Change Notices (ECN's)
Interpret existing G-code and implement discrete adjustments for process improvements
Investigates part discrepancies and directs necessary action and initiates changes to production processes, drawings and procedures
Leverages statistical methods to evaluate machine, process, and product capability
Operate industrial robotics and legacy and new test equipment
Performs complex dimensional stack-up analyses on new or existing products, tools and fixtures
Plays an active role on the product introduction teams representing the operations group
Prepare and modify complex layouts, engineering drawings and sketches of work holding and test fixtures, tooling components, and schematics. Operates CAD equipment to perform the above
Programming CNC equipment manually in combination with tool path generating software; provide support for existing automation equipment including PLC’s
Reviews completed ECN's for overall impact
Translates dimensional requirements from mechanical drawings including GD&T into robust manufacturing processes with a focus on quality, reliability and cost
Understand defects in order to best improve customer satisfaction
Understands metal machining and machine design calculations to create and optimize machining programs and fixtures
Utilize Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools, as applicable, to reduce process variation, eliminate non value-added activities
Writes PC based programs for collecting, manipulating, and generating pertinent data
BSME preferred or BSMET with machining / automation emphasis
1-3 years’ experience in mfg./production environment is preferred
Mastery of machine shop math well versed in machine design calculations
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Must possess permanent residency or Green Card authorization to work in the United States
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, movement within manufacturing and office environment
Write by hand and keyboard (within a light mfg./testing environment)
Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously
Communication by means of telephone, writing, reading, and keyboard
Visual acuity required for close detail work and computer use
