BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW:

IDEX Health & Science based in Rochester, New York IDEX Health & Science’s line of products is comprised of a Light Sources Group and an Optical Systems Group. The Light Sources Group manufactures a variety of visible, low to moderate power lasers and laser-based systems uniquely designed for consistent performance. The Light Sources Group offers three basic types of lasers: gas (helium-neon and ion lasers), diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers, and semiconductor diode laser assemblies. The Optical Systems Group provides the design, prototype and low to mid volume manufacturing of custom lens assemblies and optical systems. The Optical Systems Group also specializes in the design of reliable shutter mechanisms and assemblies

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The primary responsibility of this position is to establish partnerships with key suppliers to improve the reliability, quality, and on time delivery (OTD) of supplied parts while achieving costs containment. Interact with internal supply chain, manufacturing, engineering, as well as supplier representatives to improve processes that impact supplied parts. Investigate, analyze, and resolve supplier quality and OTD problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends and leading continuous improvement projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Supply Chain to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and those appropriate, timely and effective corrective actions are implemented.

  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues.

  • Work Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team in the assessment, selection and qualification of new supplier materials following a defined new product development process.

  • Assist with first off sample approvals.

  • Drive supplier actions to verify component and process quality at the Supplier’s location to reduce the need for incoming inspection activities.

  • Perform/review supplier process validations.

  • Monitor, communicate, Key supply chain KPI’s (OTD, DPPM, Cost of Poor Quality).

  • Manage the Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process.

  • Maintain and update supplier audit schedule

  • Conduct supplier process and performance audits.

  • Ability to identify risks/opportunities and apply Lean and Six sigma tools appropriately includingperforming root cause analysis and driving effective corrective action

  • Support the Quality Manager to monitor and report on supplier product quality and performance.

  • Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply demand on needed parts and materials and advise on any other impact.

  • Participate in Supplier Quality harmonization activities

  • Complies with health and safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of various quality system methodologies: Control Plan, Lean Manufacturing concepts, 8D Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, etc.

  • Knowledge of laser, opto-mechanical processes, procedures and production equipment

  • Solid understand receiving inspection processes including statistical sampling, component measurement techniques, specifications and drawings

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015. Certified ISO 9001 auditor preferred

  • Demonstrate proficiency working with computers using Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications

  • Metrology, inspection methods and equipment

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Manage multiple tasks and accomplish them in a timely manner

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE &, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical / Optical preferred).

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment

  • Lead or Internal auditor certification to ISO 9001

  • Trained in Six Sigma and Lean Methodology

  • Experience working with suppliers on lasers and opto-mechanical quality issues

  • Experience evaluating suppliers including on-site auditing

The position requires about 25% travel domestically and internationally
