Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply experience with opto-mechanical assemblies and laser alignment to develop and implement equipment & procedures necessary to assemble, test, and contribute to the manufacture of high performance imaging systems and microscope objectives

  • Review customer/design engineering specifications, drawings and other supporting documents

  • Develop and maintain detail procedures and train production staff

  • Investigate and initiate corrective action to manufacturing problems arising in the manufacture of one or more of the following: optical components, assembly of opto- mechanical, electrical, electronic or electromechanical assemblies

  • Review, evaluate, propose and make drawing changes on production released material and coordinates these changes with manufacturing and support groups

  • Act as technical liaison between production planning and engineering personnel.

  • Use tools, such as interferometers, laser alignment stations, power meters and distortion test equipment

  • Develop an understanding of alignment/manufacturing capabilities by measuring process outputs and conducting data analysis

  • Apply experience with manufacturing processes including Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and statistical process control (SPC)

  • Improve capabilities by leading new equipment acquisition and deployment

  • Lead the transitions of projects from design to production

  • Tooling design and implementation

  • Includes documenting process outputs

  • Developing and documenting detailed procedures

  • Support training of production team

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Electromechanical Engineering, with a minimum 5 years industrial experience in a design or precision manufacturing environment

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Electromechanical Engineering with a minimum of 1 year industrial experience in a design or precision manufacturing environment

  • Proficient with CAD software and complex assemblies

  • Ability to create engineering drawings and manage BOM’s

  • Proficient with Matlab or other programming software and MS office

  • Hands on experience with assembly and testing for new product development

  • Knowledge of optical and electrical test equipment such as power meters, spectrum analyzers, interferometers, CCD/CMOS cameras, and photodiodes preferred

  • Successful track record accomplishing desired results

  • Effective, hard worker with a team player “can-do” approach

  • Ability to work in a multifunctional team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC and/or ISO process controls

  • Proficiency with data acquisition software (LabVIEW), data analysis software (MATLAB, Minitab, Excel)

  • Experience with developing custom optical test equipment
