REPORTS TO:

Director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Optics

ITAR/EAR CRITERIA:

This position requires lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information.

States residency standards (all candidates must maintain current

citizenship/permanent residency status to work for IDEX Health &

Science in the US).

BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW (MELLES GRIOT):

Join us and help us bring manufacturing of next-generation healthcare laser

products to Rochester, NY. As part of our Advanced Manufacturing

Engineering (AME) team at Melles Griot, you will move technology from our

development center in California to our high-quality, cost-effective

manufacturing factory in Rochester, NY. In this high-profile role, you will

develop your manufacturing and leadership skills as you assist engineers in

learning, documenting, and teaching our laser manufacturing processes. Your

technical and creative skills will be stretched as you continually strive

to develop better procedures and obtain better results. Some travel to

California will be required.

SEGMENT OVERVIEW (IDEX HEALTH & SCIENCE):

Based in Rochester, NY IDEX Health & Science’s line of products is

comprised of a Light Sources Group and an Optical Systems Group. The Light

Sources Group manufactures a variety of visible, low to moderate power

lasers and laser-based systems uniquely designed for consistent

performance. The Light Sources Group offers three basic types of lasers:

gas (helium-neon and ion lasers), diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers,

and semiconductor diode laser assemblies. The Optical Systems Group

provides the design, prototype and low to mid volume manufacturing of

custom lens assemblies and optical systems. The Optical Systems Group also

specializes in the design of reliable shutter mechanisms and assemblies.

  • The Level III Laser Technician will be a crucial resource for the AMEteam, contributing to development and optimization of manufacturingprocesses for laser assembly and training of production staff

  • This individual will also serve as a mentor and leader for themanufacturing team

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Associates degree in relevant field or 4 years work experience andtraining in a related field

  • Excellent ability to perform detailed handwork

  • Necessary abilities in math, reasoning, and communication

  • Suitable industry considerations include such areas as optics, lasers,electronics, semiconductors, and electrical engineering, chemistry,biology, machining, general manufacturing, and civil or industrialdesign are not relevant fields

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE & REQUIRED ABILITIES:

The Level III Laser Technician will participate on the AME team to optimize

and deploy new products and automation to the manufacturing department.

This individual is expected to have a knowledge of and experience with

optical systems and high-tech manufacturing. The successful candidate will

be required to master new manufacturing process quickly, assist in the

continual improvement of our operations, and train other technicians and

production staff.
