IDEX Health & Science LLC- Semrock-Optical Filters. based in Rochester, New York develops and manufactures high-performance optical thin-film filters that set the standard for biotech and analytical instrumentation. IDEX Health & Science LLC is a rapidly growing company, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard catalog products to end-users. Semrock’s optical filter products are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability. Primary markets include optical filters for fluorescence imaging and measurement systems, for Raman spectroscopy systems, and for laser-based analytical instrumentation.


The Coating Operations group works over several shifts utilizing small but highly effective teams. Leading each of those teams is a Coating Team Leader. The Lead works alongside fellow coating associates but has the overall responsibility for the efficiency and the work efforts of the shift. The ability to prioritize and to communicate clearly with coating associates, technicians, engineers and managers are key elements to the role.


The right candidate will have a strong work ethic, understands the coating process and details as pertains to Semrock Optical Filters and has demonstrated people and communication skills. Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Provides on-the-floor direction to other coating associates

  • Capable of filling in for the metrology cell operator from time to time (i.e. vacation coverage)

  • Understands and communicates the machine open times

  • Optimizing utilization of resources both work force and equipment to effectively feed the newly created coating metrology cell

  • Move product to and from the metrology cell

  • Ensuring proper procedures are being rigorously utilized

  • Monitoring and reporting of process and equipment related issues to Management and Engineering, while assisting with maintenance as required

  • Required to resume coaters that are paused

Key success criteria for this position are: machine uptime as measured by machine turn times, customer satisfaction, as measured by product quality and delivery-to-schedule metrics; and coating process cycle time.



  • Experience with equipment and processes in an optical thin films production environment.

  • A strong technical understanding of optical thin films coating processes and equipment

  • Excellent organizational as well as strong people skills

  • Willingness to work flexible work hours

  • Detail orientation, and be driven to excellence

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Ability to work with minimal oversight

  • Experience with MRP or ERP systems is a plus
