IDEX Health & Science, LLC is based in Rochester, New York. IDEX Health & Science’s line of products is comprised of a Light Sources Group, an Optical Systems Group and an Optical Filters Group. The Light Sources Group manufactures a variety of low to moderate power lasers and laser-based systems uniquely designed for consistent performance. The Optical Filters Group offers filters with industry leading performance for scientific and medical devices. The Optical Systems Group provides the design, prototype and manufacturing of custom lens assemblies and optical systems.

The Optical Filters Group develops and manufactures high-performance optical thin-film filters that set the standard for biotech and analytical instrumentation. The Optical Filters Group produces revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard catalog products to end-users. Semrock’s optical filter products are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability. Major markets include optical filters for fluorescence imaging and measurement systems, for Raman spectroscopy systems, and for laser-based analytical instrumentation.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

IDEX Health & Science LLC., is currently looking for a hands-on Coating Maintenance Technician to support its thin-film coating operations. The right candidate will have significant experience with thin film coating technologies, hardware and associated vacuum systems and electronics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Support the thin-film coating operation with vacuum equipment and electronics expertise

  • Real-time troubleshooting of coating issues based on root cause assessment

  • Support off-line improvement projects in particular as related to maintenance, uptime and MTBF

  • Supportfacility systems as needed

  • Work with engineering and manufacturing to improve process and equipment reliability

Key success criteria for this position are: Coating machine uptime and factory overall efficiency (FOE) defined as the product of yields, cycle time and uptime normalized to theoretically achievable goals.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • A minimum of a 2-year technical degree and 3+ years’ experience with high-vacuum deposition, or 6+ years relevant experience

  • Direct experience with ion sources and electron guns

  • Direct experience with the repair, diagnostics and root-cause analysis of vacuum equipment issues

  • Formal electronics and vacuum training desirable

  • Experience with facility systems, including HVAC, compressed air, and chilled-water systems desirable

  • Experience using measurement systems as applied to thin film coating production, such as spectrophotometers, interferometers, oscilloscopes and other electrical, optical and mechanical test equipment

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS office

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and interfaces

  • Willingness to work flexible work hours including weekends and/or holidays
