Position Summary:
Advanced Thin Films (ATF) develops and manufactures high-performance optical components for laser markets that are setting the standard for optical coatings for cutting-edge laser systems. The Tactical Buyer will play a crucial role in purchasing consumables and raw material for ATF. In addition, they will be expected to play an active role in helping to optimize the supply chain operations of the business through CI activities and process improvements. The candidate will also focus on sourcing, analyzing, and improving supplier relationships to achieve cost savings, process efficiencies, and value creation. Below are the key duties and qualifications for a Tactical Buyer position:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Once PRs are placed and approved, release POs to vendors.
Track order acknowledgements and maintain a clean open order report to keep a pulse on order statuses.
Proactively communicate delays and risks vs planned delivery.
Understands the sourcing implications to broader business and owns a component of productivity and DMI reporting by identifying opportunities to reduce costs, complexity, or risk.
Drive process improvements to reduce costs, risks, and enhance supplier relationships while minimizing amount of inventory on hand.
Develop, plan, and implement sourcing solutions which includes finding innovative methods to create enhanced value and reduced risk in stockouts.
With support of Site Leader, Identify and implement optimal inventory management systems which includes managing current Kanban system for consumables.
Supplier base development: Identify and facilitate potential new supplier(s) to support new products/initiatives/process development, changes or component obsolescence.
Communicate with and engineering regarding product lifecycle changes due to regulation changes or component obsolescence.
Manage supplier relationships, build trust, and address performance issues.
Implement risk management, including identifying second sources for critical materials.
Track and report supplier performance internally and externally (scorecards), including cost savings and spend.
Collaborate with quality team for vendor qualifications and audits.
Identify, develop, and implement optimized cost source of supply for critical commodities.
Provide reports on spend analysis, supplier assessments, and financial perspectives.
Implement and manage ordering process for value stream specific and shared consumables.
Coordinate receipt of materials and verify all shipments match PO.
Ownership of consumable Kanban System ensuring that areas is maintained and improved upon.
Coordinate with Supply Chain Manager and Site Lead on any supplier quality issues.
With support from Site Lead, create system for monitoring and adjusting stock levels of consumables.
Implement effective inventory control measures to minimize stockouts and overages.
Support urgent pull in request as needed to satisfy customer demands or stock out scenarios.
Education / Experience:
B.A./B.S. or equivalent. Supply Chain, Operations, or Materials emphasis preferred.
2+ years related experience in a procurement/sourcing or commercial (related) role, ideally in a technology intensive industry.
Experience with optical component manufacturing desired but not required.
Experience in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment
Experience in implementing Lean manufacturing practices desired but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Computer proficiency with MS Office applications as well as MRP or ERP systems required
Strong verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to work in a team environment is essential
Detail oriented person with very strong organizational skills and an excellent work ethic.
Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks simultaneously
Ability to work effectively without direct supervision
Desire to work well in a fast-paced environment

Total Rewards
The compensation range for this position is $65,700.00 - $98,500.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
