SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Tool and Die Maker III performs work on stamping dies and production tooling. The primary duty is to utilize tool and die making skills to contribute to manufacturing improvements in both existing manufacturing processes and new products. The Tool and Die Maker III assists in the creation and maintenance of complex tools and dies autonomously, performs complex machining tasks autonomously, and trains other Tool and Die Makers. This position will interact with operations, engineering, and maintenance to repair existing tooling and machinery as well as developing new tooling and processes. In addition, they will train and support level I & II Tool and Die Makers.

REPORTING TO : Production Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be proficient in all Tool and Die Maker level 2 duties and responsibilities.

  • Adhere to all company Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Participate in the continuous improvement process.

  • Uses tools and dies to build fixtures; create dies as required to construct new fixtures.

  • Repair dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassemble molds, jigs, tools, and fixtures, then reassemble when repaired.

  • Develop content in concurrence with engineering team members for standard operating procedures, work instructions, and other controlled documents.

  • Train, coach, and support level 1 and level 2 tool makers on standard operating procedures and work instructions.

  • Perform and audit effective preventive maintenance schedule on tools and dies.

  • Design progressive dies and die components.

  • Reverse engineer dies and die components when models or drawings are not available.

  • Write CAM programs for CNC mills, CNC lathes and wire EDM machines.

  • Partner with engineering, maintenance and operations on improvement projects, machine design changes, new equipment development and new product development.

  • Lead projects as assigned.

  • Record and audit tooling repair history in CMMS software, train other team members on software.

  • Expert and training level operation and troubleshooting of CNC machines and machining operations.

  • Comprehensive understanding of various types of metals, lubricants, and other industrial materials

  • used in tool making, including their properties and applications.

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, fabricating, and modifying highly complex tools and dies.

  • Meets all Tool and Die Maker level 2 skill requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the basic requirements satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Advanced technical school training or Tool & Die Journeyman.

  • 5+ years of experience with stamping die repair and troubleshooting, engineering changes and new tooling builds.

  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting ability with stamping dies and production tooling.

  • 5+ years of experience working with progressive dies and metal forming operations.

  • Experience with CAMWorks software.

  • Experience working with CMMS (computerized maintenance management software) to document work and asset history.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL DEMANDS:

  • Time divided between standing and walking.

  • Lifting requirements range from less than 10 lbs. up to 400 lbs. Manual lifting could reach to company maximum of 50 lbs. Material handling equipment is available for heavy lifting.

  • Close vision is necessary for parts inspection.

  • Peripheral vision is necessary to monitor both the die and the feeder.

  • Distance vision is necessary to monitor more than one machine at a time.

  • Close listening skills to hear variations in machine noise to alert operator of a problem.

  • Must be constantly alert to machine operation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving, mechanical parts approximately 90% of the time.

  • Exposure to loud noise approximately 90% of the time.

  • Exposure to vibration at least 60% of the day.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $74,200.00 - $111,400.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
