POSITION SUMMARY

The New Product Development Engineer works, within the engineering

department, as design leader on advanced tool design projects. This

Engineer is responsible for the research and design of clamp installation

tools within industrial markets including automotive, energy, and telecom.

SCOPE OF ROLE

-Accurately estimates required effort and time

-Actively researches new technology for design projects

-Acts as the technical lead regarding feasibility of design and support to

manufacturing

-Calculates forces, motions, and strength of components

-Completes all other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager

-Completes preliminary tests to verify design input and functionality by

utilizing F.M.E.A. as part of the design process, as well as technical

studies, product design, preparation of specifications, as well as with

technical plans

-Develops and coordinates engineering projects and programs to ensure that

project staff and cross-functional teams complete assigned project

requirements on time

-Develops new products from concept to launch with primary focus on

mechanical power tools

-Effectively communicates project status and meets timing for all

deliverables

-Handles creating drawings and new design layouts and models using

SolidWorks

-Investigates design issues and test failures and effectively drives

corrective actions

-Maintains accurate files in accordance with applicable company processes

and IATF/ISO standards

-Participates in continuous improvement process by presenting

problems/possible solutions to the appropriate personnel

-Partners with the Manager and/or Patent Attorney to determine patent

feasibility and provide necessary documentation

-Performs technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications

and technical plans and product testing

-Queries customers and works efficiently with them to meet their needs

-Researches materials for new product development and established product

improvements and cost reductions

-Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company

standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications

-Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company

-Teams with leadership and/or patent attorney to determine patent

feasibility and provide necessary documentation

-Transitions products into the manufacturing phase by working with

Operations and Quality for a successful launch

-Utilizes experience and cross-functional interaction with manufacturing

and suppliers to deliver innovative, manufactural, and cost effective

solutions

-Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an

in-depth evaluation of variable factors

-Writes test plans, sets up and completes testing, and analyzes results

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED ABILITIES

-Able to balance work between multiple projects

-Basic understanding of machining and design for manufacturability (DFMA)

-Basic understanding of material properties

-Electrical background (automation, familiarity with industrial controllers

and controller programming, PCB design, circuit simulation, motors) is a

strong plus

-Electrical background (automation, familiarity with industrial controllers

-Experience with SolidWorks and EPDM on a network environment

-Good organizational skills

-Great mechanical understanding, problem solving skills, and comfort being

hands-on

-Knowledge of MS Office Software and Value Engineering

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

-5+ Years of Product Engineering Experience with a career focus on Manual

and Powered Hand Tools

-Mechanical Engineering BS with an electrical background OR Electrical

Engineering BS degree with a strong mechanical background
