The Purchasing team at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls, IA is looking for a Buyer to join their team. The Purchasing team is based at our Machine Shop but also has flexibility to work from home as part of a hybrid work schedule.
Reviews requisitions for the assigned commodities, secures quotations as required, determines the lowest total cost and places purchase orders with approved suppliers in a timely manner.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews open purchase order reports and monitors the suppliers on time delivery and quality performance, taking appropriate action to assure Viking’s requirements are met.
Identifies commodity groups for possible implementation of Kanban or other inventory control programs; works with supervisor on an implementation plan and works with the suppliers to assure a smooth transition.
Monitors the consignment/Kanban releases for the commodities assigned and works with the vendors to make changes as necessary.
Responds as needed in expediting products through the supplier’s manufacturing process.
Interview and evaluates suppliers as to their potential as a future source of product, or technical information to Viking Pump, bringing opportunities to the attention of their supervisor.
Monitors inventory by supplier and works to reduce excess, no demand and obsolete inventory.
Conducts supplier on-site visits to evaluate capabilities, quality processes and to build a partnering relationship.
Works closely with supervisor and other Viking departments to develop new products or processes.
Makes analysis of problems within the area of responsibility and makes recommendations to correct the problem(s).
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum of 5 years manufacturing, product engineering or quality experience in a machine shop environment
College degree and minimum of 2 years experience in a purchasing position.
APICS or CPM certificate preferred.
Negotiating experience preferred.
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have good communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.
Must be able to work with all departments, have good communication and organizational skills, provide support to all other departments and acts as the primary interface between Viking Pump, Inc. and its suppliers.
