IDEX Business Development Director (remote) in Cedar Falls, Iowa

Develops and implements business development and technology strategies for top-line, sustainable, and profitable growth via organic and inorganic initiatives for Viking Pump. Leads Innovation & Growth team to grow new business prospects through primary and secondary research; customer and market VOC; evaluation, prioritization, and execution of new product, market, technology, and customer acquisition. Initiates and champions new product/market/technology platform proposals through stage-gate process, working with diverse project teams representing key functional areas in support of multiple business Segments. Leads with an inquisitive mindset that allows for a deeper understanding of outside-in, customer and market needs to cultivate new markets new opportunities, and/or new adjacencies for growth. Continually drives to deliver differentiated innovation to meet revenue and profit targets with base/existing customers, as well as meeting or exceeding incremental growth targets via new products, new market expansion, and growth via inorganic partnerships/value-adding acquisitions.

Goal Attainment and KPI Ownership

  • Develops, prioritizes, and drives top growth initiatives globally

  • Builds early stage, robust, dynamic innovation opportunity funnel

  • Conducts frequent market visits to develop deep understanding of customer needs and collect VOC

Strategic/Business Development

  • Identifies new business opportunities, including but not limited to new products, applications, technologies, markets, customers, and adjacencies

  • Develops strategic and differentiated technology platforms to accelerate long-term growth aligned with macro forces/market trends

  • Guides the prioritization of new product opportunities and recommends development plans

  • Plays a pivotal role in development of Viking’s 3–5-year Strategic Plan

  • Builds and cultivates a robust funnel of inorganic (acquisition) opportunities; works with IDEX Corporate Development to prioritize and align on M&A efforts


  • BS in Engineering required. MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience of business management experience in a leadership role

  • Flow control equipment (pumps or adjacent technologies) required

  • Highly proficient in market insights and analysis, business modeling and financial analysis; working knowledge of sales, marketing, business development and product management processes

  • Demonstrated experience leading innovation and technology teams; bringing new products to market; expanding customer base; and successfully driving customer-first mindset throughout an organization


  • Team builder, visionary and motivational skills, a problem solver, and action oriented

  • Extensive global business experience, with a strong commercial background, ability to understand and influence differing go-to-market models (Distribution, OEM, EPC, Direct) across regions, geographies, and cultures

  • Outstanding customer facing communications and interaction skills; ability to seek out, network and develop relationships with industry thought leaders, third parties, and other experts


  • A “hands on” professional who leads by example and motivates individuals at Viking – at all levels – to strive for success and excellence

  • An anticipatory style that enables him/her to advise management, and to identify problems and opportunities at early stages

  • A team player, willing to subjugate his/her own ego for the good of the common goal.

  • Highly collaborative; able to work in a decentralized, matrix environment, working closely with other Business and Sales Management counterparts, other IDEX business units, other Viking cross-functions as needed


  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing sites, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions

  • Ability to move within product installation sites and customer locations

  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person

  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use
