Reporting Relationships

The R&D Engineering position reports to the CTO of the platform. There are no current direct reports for this role but future opportunities exist for a leadership position of a R&D group for one of the business units within IDEX OT.

Responsibilities; technical strategy & growth, project/program leadership, drive critical development goals to completion

This R&D Engineering role will work with the CTO to execute on programs defined as Long Term Investment opportunities for IDEX OT. This includes New Technology and New Product Development. Job Responsibilities include development of new processes for optical thin film coatings, development of new processes for fabrication of optical surfaces using Lasers and directed plasmas and optical metrology process creation/improvement.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering and scientific leadership on project definition and execution based on broader goals for technology and process advancement

  • Serves as primary engineer working with new equipment and processes to move projects forward: sometimes this will involve other team members but most of the time this will be as an individual contributor

  • Prepares proposals, capital request justifications, and result summaries to enable progress review on programs.

  • Works with internal and external collaborators as required to develop, license, or acquire technology

  • Serves as a thought partner and problem-solving advocate for the OT engineering and technical teams

  • Clearly communicates schedule, technical, budgetary status and risks internally and externally. This involves communication up, down, and parallel within the organization.

  • Masters Degree or higher in mechanical engineering, applied physics, or equivalent field. Ph.D. preferred

  • 5+ years’ experience in the field of manufacturing process and development

  • Program Management and deep level problem solving experience.

  • Ability to work with an open set of goals and compile a plan for driving technology development toward desired endpoints.

  • Experience working in a Phase Gate, Milestone driven R&D environment preferred

  • Working proficiency in 3D CAD software, Optical Design Software, and general skills in the use of programming languages to help solve engineering problems, automation, and data analysis (ex. Python, C++, C#, Julia, Matlab)

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Statistical data collection, analysis, and solution implementation experience

  • Process flow, FMEA, and/or control plan development experience preferred

This job requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status. Per the IDEX OT Export Controls Policy and Procedure, the employee must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.

Compensation Information:

  • Pay Range: 65k - 90k/year

  • Bonus: This position is eligible for company discretionary bonus
