The Sales Engineer manages sales activities for assigned market segment and its associated accounts; handles large portion of inbound assigned customer inquiries including, but not exclusive to, as follows: product recommendations, technical support, and quote generation; generates new business with existing customers where appropriate; visits customers; identifies new product, project, and /or program opportunities in tandem with technology roadmap; identifies and assesses competitors as necessary; develops relationships with key industry buying influencers; stays current with optical industry trends and technology. This position requires twenty to thirty percent time on travel.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Serve as contact person for assigned target accounts within designated market segment (travel may be required once per month, typically consisting of a few days each occurrence).

-Assist in developing and implementing market specific growth strategies and initiatives within target accounts which are aligned with our Strategic Plan.

-Develops accurate information concerning prospect and customer needs, and effectively communicates the information to company decision makers and team members.

-Respond to customer inquiries via email, phone call, and/or in person visits

-Help qualify or disqualify incoming opportunities as appropriate

-Determine customers’ delivery, price, and quality expectations

-Review quote requests with customers to insure specifications and tolerances are complete; be able to communicate said specifications to manufacturing to determine feasibility

-Prepares quote packages including sales drawings, cost worksheets and acceptance test documentation

-Follow up all open quotes to close

-Work to achieve department quarterly new order, sales and EBITDA goals

-Generate new business with existing customers via cross selling

-Understand key customers’ products and services

-Identify competitors’ strengths and weaknesses for CVI’s top customers

-Develop relationships with key industry buying influencers

-Develops and maintains successful and professional relationship with customer prospects

-Ensures that all customer needs are satisfied and that the company maintains a reputation for customer satisfaction.

-Responds to prospects, customers and coworkers in a timely and professional manner.

-Complies with health and safety policies and procedures submits accurate expense reports on a timely basis.

-Supports company values including ethical conduct and high integrity in all actions.

This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status. Per the CVI Laser, LLC Export Controls Policy and Procedure, the employee must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Communicates company and product values to prospective customers via formal and informal presentations, meetings and communications.

-Researches, documents and reports industry trends, purchasing history and buying trends related to assigned accounts.

-Represents the company at trade shows, technical meetings, exhibitions and workshops. Develops and presents technical papers at these events, as required.

-Maintains accurate and timely activity and customer reports.

-Participates in sales meetings, selling events, special multi-business unit sales team programs and assigned training programs.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE:

-B.S. in optical sciences/engineering, electrical engineering, or physics with concentration/minor in optical sciences preferred.

-2-4 years sales and/or optical components and systems industry experience

-Experience with high energy lasers, optical components and opto-mechanical system assemblies.

-Ability to lead sales processes from design to purchase order.

-Ability to lead complex quote processes with customers, suppliers and manufacturing engineers.

Strong listening skills, and ability to multi-task.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

-Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.

-Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

-Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

-Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

-Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

-Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

-Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
