The Quality Engineer (QE) will be responsible in supporting, furthering the success of, and implementing process improvements to ensure sustainable quality practices for the business. This role supports the Quality Assurance (QA) department by aligning current quality processes, procedures, and activities to be compliant with ISO 9001:2015. Identify root cause and corrective measures (RCCM) investigating and mitigating customer returns, internal non-conformances, Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and supplier quality issues. Uses Lean problem-solving techniques, trains other employees, and is skilled at communicating with internal and external customers.
This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status. Per company Export Controls Policy and Procedures, the selected candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Work as an effective team member with engineering, operations, supply chain and commercial team colleagues to address customer Return Material Authorizations (RMAs), internal quality Non-conformance Reporting (NCRs), and supplier quality corrective action requests (SCARs).
Utilize tools such as Pareto Charts, SPC, DMAIC and 5S to improve First-pass Yield (FPY), reduce scrap, an improve cycle times.
Communicate effectively and articulately with customers and auditors in a manner that represents the company positively and fairly for quality related issues.
Assist in the review of contracts and purchase orders to ensure product is compliant with all customer quality requirements.
Follow and implement ISO 9001 compliant practices to ensure the company maintains it’s ISO9001:2015 certification.
Perform internal audits and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) to mitigate and control quality issues.
Responsible for the completion of First Article Inspection (FAI) reports initiated either by customer purchase order or as part of Change Control verification and management.
Manages the calibration system and designs inspection techniques using proper inspection tools and testing equipment.
Responsible for ROHS/Reach compliance, management of the company’s eQMS system, and the completion of all quality related customer surveys.
Report to and perform all other duties as assigned by company’s QA Manager.
BACKGROUND SKILLS
Experienced practitioner of ISO 9001:2015.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience training team members
Demonstrated use of VSM’s, APQP, FMEA, FAI, PPAP, 5S, DMAIC, 8D, 5 whys, Ishikawa or fish bone diagrams, and other problem solving methods that lead to effective root cause and corrective measures (RCCM).
Ability to interpret GD&T drawings and use measurement devices to validate specifications.
Collect, compile, and understand basic mathematical calculations and statistical data.
QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. in Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Optical Engineering, Optics, Science, or related field
Minimum 3+ years of Quality experience, including inspection, corrective action, and auditing
Experienced in an ISO 9001, AS9102, TS/IATF 16949 and/or AS9100 manufacturing environment
Prefer candidates with ASQ CQE certification
