This position is responsible for designing of multi-element objectives and lens systems, and evaluating feasibility for specs, tolerances, manufacturing processes, and testing design of such systems. The main duties are to support OEM business and the product development, and to support ongoing production. Other responsibilities may be assigned according to company’s business strategies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In-depth understanding of first order optics and aberration theory.
Ability to interface with customers to determine their needs, to present options and results professionally.
Ability to generate optical systems and components specifications from system-level performance requirements.
Develop designs for optical components, systems and products utilizing product specifications
Provide accurate and detailed requirements documentation for fabrication of optical components.
Provide accurate test requirements and support design/verification of test fixtures.
Ability to integrate optical and mechanical designs and use advanced simulation tools to select processes.
Ability to work independently and complete complex tasks without step-by-step instructions.
Ability to generate accurate personnel, materials, schedule and budgets requirements in support of complex engineering proposals.
Ability to work with other engineers or technicians to develop and debug test procedures.
Interface with opto-mechanical or mechanical engineers to define tooling, optical mounting.
Ability to train other less experienced personnel.
This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. The employee must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to operate in a multi-tasking environment and communicates effectively with others and other departments.
Ability to write technical reports in concise and accurate English, and present the results orally as required.
Working knowledge of optical test and evaluation equipment such as interferometers and spectrophotometer.
Hands-on laboratory skills for assembly, alignment, calibration, and evaluation of optical systems.
Maintain flexibility and work well with time and production restrictions.
BS (MS preferred) in Physics, Optics, Optical Engineering.
Two or more years’ experience in modern optical lens design.
Direct experience with refractive, reflective, diffractive and electro-optical elements.
Proficient with one or more optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, ASAP and Trace Pro.
Familiar with Excel or other data analysis tools
Experience with CAD software, such as Solidworks or AutoCAD preferred.
Ability to perform sedentary work at a workstation
Demonstrate upper body mobility to lift objects of 15 lb. frequently and 50 lb. occasionally
Ability to efficiently transport optics to and from the necessary departments
Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist, knees, and neck to operate related equipment.
Perform legible written communication
WORKING CONDITIONS: (when in production area)
Minimal fumes from alcohol and acetone (used when clean optics).
Continuous background noise from equipment.
PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOB: Medium Work: The ability to lift up to fifty pounds occasionally or up to fifteen pounds frequently.
