POSITION SUMMARY
Operates the spectrophotometers; interferometers; uses other test equipment to evaluate optical components; documents information; maintains equipment and area. This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, certain positions with IDEX Corporation and its business units require access to controlled goods and technologies subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or the Export Administration Regulations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates the spectrophotometers, interferometer, and Photothermal Common Path Interferometer (PCI), Extinction Ratio Test Setup, Burn in Tester
Interprets optical trace measurement information
Analyzes measurement results to determine if manufactured optics adhere to specifications
Communicates trace results to QC employees
Operates other test equipment to evaluate optical components
Assists with R & D measurements using spectrophotometers and laser-damage measurement equipment
Uses computer for entering received products
Assists in equipment and area maintenance
Assists in training other employees
Performs other duties as assigned by the Quality department supervisor

Read, interpret, and understand inventory material part numbers, and traces
Manage time efficiently
Work without direct supervision
Computer literate in Windows Operating System, Office Products, specifically Excel spreadsheets
CREDENITALS AND EXPERIENCE
Job experience or education of at least two years in an engineering or science-related field
(Preferred) Technical training of at least one year in the optical field with training in the use of spectrophotometers, interferometers, or the equivalent in work experience with the use of spectrophotometers or interferometers
(Preferred) One-year quality inspection experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Willing to work extended hours when necessary
Willing to work weekends when necessary
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS
Visually distinguish between coated and uncoated optics
Visually identify surface defects on optics
Visually determine and differentiate between colors
Perform legible written communication
Manipulate optics into and out of fixtures and spindles
Efficiently transport fragile materials within that area or to other departments
Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist, knees, and neck to inspect optics, operate testing equipment, and maintain work area
Lift optics for inspecting, cleaning, testing, packaging, and restocking (up to 20 lb.)
Exposure to minimal fumes from acetic acid, alcohol, epoxies and chemicals
Protective gloves and finger cots are worn to prevent over-exposure of skin to chemicals
PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOB
Light Work: The ability to lift up to twenty pounds occasionally or up to ten pounds frequently to
perform the primary tasks, however, occasionally the Technician works with very large optics or bottles
of liquid which may weigh up to fifty pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible
amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it
involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling with arms or legs or both.
