IDEX Mechanical Engineer – Manufacture, Assembly and Test in Albuquerque, New Mexico

The Mechanical Engineer leads manufacturing engineering support for one or more of CVI’s optomechanical assembly value streams. The role is responsible for providing hands on production and test support, including build of products and training of assembly technicians. The role is also responsible for initiating process improvements for current products and processes, as well as leading design and validation of new products.


As pertains to the supported value stream, including but not limited to

  • Responsible for ensuring product is built to meet performance, quality and delivery specifications.

  • Provides daily production guidance to Assembly Technicians

  • Trains technicians on work instructions and assembly best practices

  • Maintains and improves work instructions

  • Teams with CVI Sales, Production, Quality, Planning and other functions to respond to new and modified product design requests.

  • Leads CVI Engineering’s design and development process, including configuration management and production approval processes.

  • Generates complete engineering fabrication documentation & bill of materials.

  • Designs and develops fixtures, tools, prototypes, and other production support items using SolidWorks.

  • Teams with CVI Quality Assurance to initiate and lead root cause investigations with containment plans and corrective and preventative actions.

  • Determines critical parameters for process control given end objectives and requirements.

  • Identifies, recommends and drives process capability improvements.

  • Leads project meetings and provides input and updates. Creates effective technical reports and presentations.

  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering or equivalent field.

  • Working proficiency in Solidworks or other 3D CAD system.

  • Ability to read, understand, and apply a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including engineering drawings.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.


  • 2+ years’ experience in the field of high-tech manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated experience with New Product Development (NPD) stage gate processes, design of experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and project planning.

  • Statistical data collection, analysis, and solution implementation experience.

  • Six Sigma Green or Black belt.

  • Process flow, FMEA, and/or control plan development experience.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T per ISO standards.

  • Experienced in design failure root cause investigations.


Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Ability to:

  • Bend as is necessary for sitting, using computers, using the telephone, and computer mouse

  • Demonstrate eye-hand coordination

  • Operate testing and measuring equipment

  • Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist to operate testing equipment

  • Apply force to adjust and operate testing equipment, turn knobs and cranks

  • Manipulate fragile parts into and out of equipment to measure size and shape

  • Grasp objects in order to turn, wipe, adjust instrumentation and safely use sharp instruments

  • Twist and turn wrists and forearms to perform inspection of optics and to operate testing equipment and computer

  • Bend at the neck to perform inspection and testing of optics and related equipment

  • Perform legible written communication.

  • Ability to work in a Class 1000 clean room environment wearing appropriate PPE.
