The Wallingford Site is a dynamic, rapidly growing company servicing the life sciences and analytical instruments sectors with custom products and manufacturing solutions. We design, develop and manufacture microfluidic devices for sequencing, pathogen detection, diagnostics, and many other applications.
The Technical Director will be responsible for leading a team and act as the focal point to customer on products produced developed at the Wallingford Site. Responsibilities will include directing a team of highly motivated development engineers and scientists engaged in developing product and processes for the highest quality consumable microfluidic devices intended for life sciences, IVD and analytical applications. Responsible for concept identification, design, fabrication, process development and testing. A successful Microfluidics Development Lead collaborates amongst peers and leaders across the entire IDEX Health & Science RD&E organization, as well as local Planning, Customer Service, Quality and Manufacturing teams.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Guide teams to develop microfluidic device solutions for customer applications; while managing the micro-fluidics product & technology team.
Innovate and implement microfluidics designs from research, through development to the production environment.
Responsible for leading the teams in the development of device & product solutions and process technologies.
Oversee automated inspection, fluid handling and manipulation of equipment.
Help ensure efficient transfer of new products and processes into stable production
Partner with the leaders of other functions to collaborate in the development of the workforce and support the site to achieve site goals.
Support continuous improvement
Other responsibilities as directed
MS in organic, surface chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent at a minimum, PhD a plus
Solid experience in leadership, employee engagement and skills development
5+ years of related experience in a Life Sciences product development environment
Experience with soft lithography, hot embossed, PSA, etched or injection molded microfluidics and Cleanroom experience
Working knowledge of basic molecular biology reactions
Knowledge and experience with SolidWorks (or similar) and LabView
Methodical, effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills
Experience working in an ISO9001 or equivalent quality environment
Deep knowledge in chemically modifying a variety of solid substrates for biological applications
An emphasis on functionalization of surfaces for specific DNA and antibody immobilization chemistries
Deep understanding of the physics and manufacturing of microfluidics devices
Experience in injection molding and/or hot embossed fabrication methods a plus
