JOB TITLE & FUNCTION:

Quality Assurance Manager

REPORTS TO:

Vice President, Human Resources, Premier Farnell

BUSINESS UNIT:

Akron Brass is a market leader in the manufacture and sale of

high-performance fire-fighting equipment for fire truck manufacturers,

public fire services and industrial facilities. Akron Brass products are

designed to improve the safety and efficiency of personnel and equipment

engaged in the suppression of fire. Akron Brass operates in Wooster, Ohio,

sells through its own field sales force and through distribution to

customers all over the world. Akron Brass has a high share of the North

American market and seeks to grow by broadening its product range and

reaching new geographic and industrial markets. Akron Brass specializes in

manufacturing Fire Nozzles, Firefighting Monitors / Water Cannons, Fire

Apparatus Valves, Emergency Scene Lighting, Vehicle Lighting, Vehicle

Electronics, Fire Hand Tools, and Reels.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Direct process for disposition of discrepant material

  • Direct training and auditing programs to improve quality

  • Lead and supports ISO 9001:2015 and other 3rd party certifications toimprove quality

  • Manage inspectors and CMM programmer

  • Manage the facilitation of continuous improvement programs

  • Responsibility for assuring quality of all processes in both Woosterplants

  • Spearhead the improvement of current quality systems to obtain qualityobjectives

KEY CHALLENGES:

  • Maintaining calibration of all equipment and gauging

  • Meet customer delivery dates in a fast-paced environment wherepriorities change daily

  • Minimizing the production of discrepant material and quickly resolvingdiscrepant material issues to maintain production

  • Must achieve first time quality in a low volume / high mix job shopenvironment

  • Must be able to get results in a Union environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4-year degree in quality or related technical field such as mechanicalengineering

  • 5+ years of experience in a quality leadership role in a machiningenvironment

  • ASQC certification preferred

  • Directs training and auditing programs to improve quality

  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Guide the improvement of current quality systems to obtain qualityobjectives

  • Leads and supports ISO 9001:2015 and other 3rd party certifications toimprove quality

  • Maintaining calibration of all equipment and gauging
