Position Summary: Creates coating designs and implements them into production. Monitors and improves coating processes, procedures and equipment. Assists sales with technical questions and customer quotes.


  • Creates new coating processes or modifies existing coating processes

  • Designs new coatings for production

  • Assists in product development

  • Solves problems in coating production

  • Manages assigned projects

  • Tests and modifies equipment to improve quality and production

  • Assists in Sales for quote or customer support

  • Meets production schedules by establishing or adjusting work procedures

  • Assists and consults with salespersons and customers regarding CVI products

  • Develops new coating designs per customer requests

  • Develops new products

  • Works with Coating Technicians to ensure proper set-ups for special production shots

  • Works in conjunction with the Machine Shop in the design and fabrication of new equipment and the repair of old equipment

  • Advises Sales and Expediting on problems with shots or specific terms

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work problems

  • Enforces and actively and openly supports the polices and procedures of CVI

  • Sets, follows and enforces all safety regulations

  • Recommends changes as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrate experience with design software

  • B.S. in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or related science field

  • Two or more years’ experience in optical coating/thin-film deposition processes in a manufacturing environment

  • Familiar with high vacuum systems, e-beam deposition and plasma-assisted deposition

  • Familiar with Excel or other data analysis tools

  • PLC automation experience and product development experience preferred

  • Knowledge of CVI products preferred
