SUMMARY : Generates new and maintains present business with existing and new customers within the Defense, Sensing, and Security (DSS) and Industrial (IND) market segments; assists in identifying new product improvement and development opportunities; assists in identifying and assessing competitors within the DSS and IND segments; handles the technical portion of trade compliance paperwork, including import and export related documentation. Assists in developing and maintain processes for trade compliance for sales and operations. Stays current with optical industry trends and technology in addition to trade compliance changes and updates. Provides technical assistance as needed to sales team.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate new and maintain business with existing customers within the DSS and IND segments

  • Serve as the technical liaison for customers within the DSS and IND segments, including, but not exclusive to, technical inquiries, drawing/modeling drafting, and design inquiries.

  • Manage quoting activity for assigned customers, including drawing submission, engineering change notice (ECN) submission, etc.

  • Develop acceptance test procedures (ATP) for new orders from key customers as needed

  • Communicate complete specifications to manufacturing engineering and operations for new items

  • Determine key customers’ delivery, price, and quality expectations

  • Carry a thorough understanding of the DSS and IND business segments and the type of products warranted; cross sell CVI products and system integration whenever possible

  • Visit key customerson an as needed basis

  • Communicates with key customers to consolidate specifications and recommend configurations

  • Develops and maintains successful and professional relationship with customer prospects. Ensures that all customer needs are satisfied and that the company maintains a reputation for customer satisfaction.

  • Qualifies and disqualifies opportunities as appropriate.

  • Develops accurate information concerning customer needs, and effectively communicates the information to company decision makers and team members.

  • Assists in obtaining customer acceptance of company products.

  • Responds to prospects, customers, and coworkers in a timely and professional manner.

  • Actively participates in all customer support programs including concurrent engineering and development projects.

  • Works with Sales Engineering Manager and/or Global Director of Sales to identify growth areas concerning R&D and general product improvement

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the USML and CCL, and serves as a resource for trade compliance for sales and operations

  • Qualifies and disqualifies end user statements concerning company exports

  • Assists in providing HTS Codes, ECCN Codes, and COO Codes for existing and present items either imported or exported; keeps record of code formation concerning COO determination

  • Assists in managing jurisdiction and classification process for new and existing items

  • Manages drawing and document database concerning submissions, deletions, and changes

  • With time permitting, serves as a technical resource for the sales team

  • This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status. Per the IDEX Optical Technologies’ Export Controls Policy and Procedure, the employee must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident .

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicates company and product values to prospective customers via formal and informal presentations, meetings, and other forms of communication.

  • Researches, documents, and reports industry trends, purchasing history and buying trends related to assigned accounts.

  • Represents the company at trade shows, technical meetings, exhibitions and workshops.Develops and presents technical papers at these events, as required.

  • Maintains accurate and timely activity and customer reports.

  • Participates in marketing and sales meetings (if applicable), selling events, special multi-business unit programs and assigned training programs.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering or other related discipline, with preferably 1-3 years industry experience

  • Experience with high energy lasers, opto-mechanical components and/or opto-mechanical assemblies preferable

  • Experience with interpretation of engineering drawings; familiarity of MIL Standards, ISO Standards, and/or GD&T preferable

  • Experience with lens design (ZEMAX, Code-V) or modeling software (i.e. CAD, Solidworks)

  • Experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Ability to lead sales processes from design to purchase order

  • Ability to lead complex quote processes with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing engineers

  • Ability to make decisions on matters of compliance for imports and exports made by the facility

  • Strong listening skills and ability to multi-task

  • Customer Service oriented
